US Republicans – Getting Nastier
The move against President Biden, which Speaker, Kevin McCarthy had been signalling for weeks, comes as some far-right Republicans are irate at, what they perceive as, Biden’s overspending, and alleged corruption – and threatening to depose McCarthy as Speaker of the house.
Hard-right Republicans, who remain loyal to Mr. Trump and bent on exacting revenge for his impeachment and the raft of criminal prosecutions he is facing, are pressing hard for the move.
Mr. McCarthy’s announcement appeared to clear the way for House investigators to issue subpoenas for witness statements under oath and the release of bank records of Biden and his family members.
In a statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, Ian Sams, a White House spokesman, rebuked Mr. McCarthy for engaging in what he called “extreme politics at its worst, House Republicans have been ‘investigating’ the President for nine months, and they’ve turned up no evidence of wrongdoing,”
Another chapter in the ‘Trump Saga’.
My interest in and research on what soon became – the ‘Trump Saga’ – began in June this year – feels like it’s gone on for a lot longer – and has generated multiple posts.
Over time and learning more – I became fascinated by the man and had a growing awareness that he was potentially a great danger to global security– particularly in any position of power i.e. President of the U.S.A.
This is reinforced for me – by the reaction of the American justice system and judiciary – in pursuing investigations which have, to date – led to 91 separate criminal charges against him – most going to trial in 2024.
I have never accepted his standard response – “I am completely innocent’– ‘of these trivial charges” -and that this is a conspiracy by the ‘Deep State’ (the latter being his self-penned description of any part/member of the establishment who don’t like him).
In researching the indictments – I felt obliged to read all the detailed evidence – including corroborating witness statements, audio recordings and photographs – and I believe they are all – comprehensive – objective and damning.
Finally –
in everything I have read – the Republican Party has become increasingly reprehensible – not just far right but embedded with historical attitudes which have no place in the modern world;
Racist, misogynistic, anti- abortion – I could go on but maybe the clincher -is a more recent development –
An independent poll of Republican House members regarding American continuing support for Ukraine – produced a majority 70 to 30 – in favour of America ceasing all support of Ukraine.

‘Putin wouldn’t have invaded Ukraine under a Beefy Piece of Man Meat Like Trump.’
Trump has also said, more than once, in a live TV interview – that the Russian invasion – ‘Would not have happened when I was President’.
The sub plot, being – that it’s all Biden’s fault.
‘Let Putin have it,’
Putin has repeated, in public broadcasts, that he admires Trump – and
trump is quoted as describing Putin as ‘Very Savvy’.
A marriage made in hell.
And –
more recently – there has been a marked increase in Republican party members and voters identifying themselves as ‘MAGA Republicans’
MAGA? – ‘MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN’. – a Trump election slogan.
Recent estimates suggest that at least 40% of Republican voters – agree that they are MAGA Republicans who, not only have an allegiance to former President Trump whatever he does or says -, but also believe that –
the 2020 election was stolen from him,
the current criminal charges against him are an organised conspiracy and ‘witch-hunt – and that he is innocent of all charges,
the attack on the Capitol Building – incited by Trump – was appropriate action in the circumstances.
And – a large faction, agree that America should abandon the Ukraine.

‘The Grand Old Party – an historic title – in the same way that we in the UK often refer to the Tory Party.
they do however – make the UK conservative Party look – Centre Left’.
