Thought for the Week 1/10/2023
I was born and brought up in a deprived area of central Birkenhead, on Merseyside.
It was a bit tough, from the start – the primary school I attended from age five to eleven – was tough,
Just one example:
An elderly lady teacher was a bit of s disciplinarian.
Mostly sat behind her rectangular desk/table at the front of the class – when she wasn’t stood up – throwing the wooden blackboard rubber at a pupil who had annoyed her – easily done, of course.
She could bounce it of a head, about two out of three throws.
Probably, now – a criminal offence.
She had a wide band of sticky tape – fixed around the front and side edges of her desk – embedded, all round, with drawing pins –
All with the sharp bits – pointing up!
Nobody leaned on her desk!
