The Georgia Indictment – Trump 0 .V. US Department of Justice 119
The state indictment in the ‘Georgia, ‘Election Interference’ investigation – has now been opened and is extensive and complicated, charging a network of 19 people with 41 counts.
41 Counts in the Georgia Indictment
22 counts forgery or false documents and statements
8 counts soliciting or impersonating public officers
3 counts influencing witnesses
3 counts election fraud or defrauding the state
3 counts computer tampering
1 count perjury
1 count racketeering (N.B. legislation designed to deal with ‘organised crime’ – specifically MAFIA type operations.
Which takes the current total of federal and state charges against Trump to 119 – or 137 if you count the other 18 defendants on this one!
What’s Next?
Trump has to voluntarily present himself to the Fulton County police Headquarters by noon on the 25th of August to be processed for the court.
It is expected that his legal team will make a formal request, that the trial be transferred from the Atlanta State Court to a federal court.
Because – Atlanta is an established Democrat supporting State and a local jury may not be as open minded as they should – a federal jury – would be drawn from a much bigger catchment area.
The sub agenda – if Trump becomes President – he can pardon himself from only Federal court verdicts – but not State rulings.
N.B. A similar request to the Manhattan court judge, in a previous action – was rejected!
Footnote:
Hillary Clinton recently gave a previously scheduled late-night interview on MSNBC. She said that she felt “great profound sadness” that the former president had already been indicted on so many other charges that “went right to the heart of whether or not our democracy would survive.”
She was never a fan of Trump, of course.
